Round log post &
beam construction offers a cost efficient alternative to full log, and
features hand-crafted log structure with in-fill 2X6 framed walls, or
"panels", to be finished on the exterior with wood siding, stone
or plaster. The basic structure includes handhewn log posts, wall panels and gable end panels clad with plywood, cap rounds,
floor beams and log roof perlins. All of the log posts are flattened
to accept the adjoining framed walls, and then grooved from top to bottom. The final exterior wood siding of the panels will fit
snugley into these grooves or channels, providing a tight, interlocking
shrink-proof type of joinery.
Pre-built panels
include all main floor exterior walls, second floor gable ends and dormer
walls, if any. All window and door openings are framed in, as per plans.
Log details and
highlights can include trusses (see photo #9), arches, log staircases
and railings. The amount of log work included (beyond the basic log
structure) is generally governed by personal taste and budget.
Rob Littler, president of Artisan Custom Log Construction is pictured with Mel Zajac, chairman of the Mel Jr. & Marty Zajac Foundation (see photo # 12). The Zajac Foundation's vision is to support children, seniors and those with special needs through innovative community projects.
Artisan is proud to be contributing to the development of the Zajac Ranch for Children, located on a beautiful 40 acre property on Stave Lake, northwest of Mission.
This post & beam cabin is the first of several planned to accomodate visiting doctors who volunteer to provide needed care for sick children; their families will be encouraged to accompany them, making it a working holiday in a magnificent wilderness setting. http://www.zajacranch.com/
