The International Log Builders Association
recently held their 35th Annual AGM and Conference in WhiteFish, Montana. This group is made up diverse individuals, companies and associations from around the world who all share a passion for building with big wood. Members include hand-crafted log construction companies, engineers, architects, and numerous other associated groups.

The annual conferences provide an ideal venue to gather, reminisce, and celebrate! One of the highlights has become the Log Builders Games. Contestants range from the young, quick, enthusiastic newcomers to the wise and seasoned master builders, who pass on their favored techniques and offer the occasional sage word of advice.

Chainsaws roar and sawdust flies! Contestants are timed and their work is judged and inspected very carefully with penalty points given for any errors or inaccuracies. Log Builders come from all over the world, including Canada, U.S.A., Russia, New Zealand, Japan and Germany.

For the past 2 years in a row, all of the log building events have been won by local hand-crafter Josh Littler, of Artisan Custom Log Construction, based in Mission, B.C. He is a Log Yard Foreman who runs a crew of builders in the Artisan Log Yard located at the U.B.C. Malcolm Knapp Research Forest in Maple Ridge, B.C.
